Dear Esmeralda,
I’m not quite sure how to best contact you as there is not contact form on your web site so I am posting a comment in hopes of getting a reply!
I found your web site through a google alert for survivors of suicide that I have set up. I am writing because I am a 23 year survivor of my mother’s suicide. It’s hard to believe that it has been that long!
Ten years ago I made a documentary film called Daughter of Suicide (that aired on HBO Signature) about my mother’s struggle with depression, about her suicide and about the impact of that suicide on me, her family and her friends. You can see a clip of the film and read more about the documentary (including media reviews and survivor reviews) at http://www.daughterofsuicide.com
A couple of weeks ago, I launched a campaign to raise the funds to put together a 10th Anniversary DVD of Daughter of Suicide. In brief, I am wanting to put together a DVD that includes footage not seen in the film. In exchange for donations, individuals receive a copy of the film. You can see the campaign here: http://kck.st/aRoZeQ
I am trying to promote the campaign and am wondering if you might be willing to post something on the Forever Invictus web site about the DVD or allow me to write a guest blog. Perhaps you even have an email newsletter that you can include the information in?
I would welcome the opportunity to discuss the possibilities with you and to learn more about the event you are planning for September. I live in Brooklyn and remember the pain I felt knowing that there were now more survivors in the world when I learned about the NYU suicides.
Kind regards and thank you for your work,
Dempsey Rice

Dear Dempsey, thank for you getting in touch. I will email you. Best, Esmeralda
April 23, 2010 at 2:33 pm
Hi! How awesome that Dempsey Rice came across your blog! Her documentary is amazing! I can only imagine that the 10th anniversary film will be equally amazing.
Esmeralda, you must already see how perfectly geographically positioned you are to coordinate the work you and Andrew will do to assist in bringing suicide out of the dark so that we can see the enemy we are fighting! Stand your ground and never retreat. Do not neglect your armour–truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation (victory), powerful words (Eph 6: 13-17). Do not run faster than you are able but press forward (Imua!).
Aloha~

Thank you for your on going encouragement.
April 23, 2010 at 5:59 pm
Thanks…I feel comfortable in those roles– researcher and encourager. I will leave event planner to you
You go girl!
April 23, 2010 at 2:36 pm
On a lighter, pragmatic note…it looks like you may need to make your email more obvious…it seems some readers don’t think to search around your blog to find your email address which has always been in the “About” you post.
April 23, 2010 at 5:23 pm
Thanks. I’ll see if I can do a contact page:)
April 23, 2010 at 6:20 pm
You are probably already working on a Facebook page for the Wellness event. I am not sure which kind of Facebook page would have the greatest reach. The younger generation in your network of family and friends would know
April 23, 2010 at 8:46 pm
Actually no. I hadn’t thought about it. You see, MRS. non-event planner? What would I do without you? Even though my brain is swirling with idea, I just can’t do it all.
And actually I don’t know how to do a fan page, so PLEASE…….Somebody help with that
(How do you make your smiley face wink?)
April 24, 2010 at 12:33 am
To make the winking smiley face use a semi-colon instead of a colon
Keep those ideas swirling… You also have this ability/gift to share your vision in an appealing way which brings ideas out of others…this creates a wonderful synergy…
Or perhaps, for us survivors, we’ve walked in your 5 almost 6 month shoes, are amazed and inspired by what you’re doing at this point in your grief and we WANT your ideas to succeed…with a passion!
It’s probably both…

Esmeralda, we can get free wallet cards (500 ct) through this site:

I will look at the other resources too and see if they are something we can use.

You are cooking now, aren’t you? I am smiling just thinking of the wonderful fair coming to your town soon
May 4, 2010 at 10:43 am
Hi Esmeralda,
I am a close friend of kukunaokala. (She’ll explain who I am if you ask her.)Anyway, I live in Washington D.C. and I will love to help out with The Fair ANYWAY I can. Please let me know what I can do. I will also keep talking with kukunaokala and see what I can do in that area as well.
If you could maybe email me some details about the event that would also be great.
Thank you for your time.
May 4, 2010 at 11:41 am
Hi, thank you for your time. I am so happy to hear from you and to have you on our team. What’s your forte? How do you think you can best help?
We are compiling a volunteers list and from there assign projects, tasks. kukunaokala knows all about the Fair. It will take place at the end of September in Manhattan and we are waiting for the permits to be issued, then we will announce place and exact date.
I look forward to hearing back from you. Thanks, Esmeralda
Now I can add Washington DC to the map, so exciting!
May 4, 2010 at 12:41 pm
I’m happy to help! My forte…well I’m not sure what you are in need of, but I do have a Master’s degree in English Lit, so I can write. I have experience in technical, creative and research writing. I have some experience in photography and some in event planning, well company event planning. I just got married two months ago and I just moved to DC, but I use to live in Utah, so I know a lot of people there…
I don’t know if any of this is helpful, but let me know. I’ll have to get some more info from kukunaokala and see if I can help in her area until I can think of something here.
Thank you! I’m very excited to be involved!

With your writing and research writing skills, you could write our press releases. Could you research how to write a press release? It needs to be in one page, it needs who, what ,where, when, and information contacts.
And with your event planning experience, do you think we could give you all the programs and events of the Fair and you could create a smooth time table?
This are my initial thoughts. I will put you in touch with Kristina and Naiomi who are coordinating the master list.
I am excited to have you on board. THANK YOU, Esmeralda
May 4, 2010 at 4:17 pm
Yes, I would love to do that! I will start researching asap! And I can definitely do time table. Just let me know who to talk to and I will get going on it. Thanks so much!

!!!!!!!GREAT!!!!! Welcome on board. Another thing you can do that would be helpful, is to spread the blog link. Hugs, Esmeralda

Esmerelda!
My name is Josh Rivedal and I would love to be a part of Get Your Wellness on! A little background on me- my father committed suicide last year, and long story short, to cope I wrote a one man show that deals with among other things, my father’s suicide and now it is opening for a six performance run in The Midtown International Theater Festival this July 16th in NYC.
The show is an hour but I can certainly cut it to fit your needs, somewhere between 20 and 40 minutes I presume. I would love to be a part of your volunteer team because this show can really help a lot of people who are dealing with a loved one’s suicide, and that is one of my purposes for creating this show.
If this interests you, you can contact me via http://www.thegospelaccordingtojosh.com. There is a link to my email address on the site. Thanks and be well.
Best,
Joshua Rivedal

Dear Joshua, thank you for getting in touch. I am away at the moment until Sunday. I will look at the link and of course we would love to have your help.
I am sorry about your father. He died of suicide (not committed)
I look forward to meeting soon and good luck with the show.
Hugs, Esmeralda

Esmeralda,
It was great speaking with you today. I will be shipping 1200 wristbands and more than 1500 bumperstickers to you tomorrow via Fed Ex. I have also enlisted a friend to join me that weekend in NYC to help you with this event. It is so important for us to all work together to shine a light on suicide….to educate those who think they cannot or will never wind up on this side of the line we are now on. Every life saved is a victory and a legacy for those who were not saved.
See you on the 17th!

Esmeralda,
Unfortuntely, I’ve had a small change in plans and will not be able to make it up on Friday but will be taking the train to NYC early Saturday morning to meet you at the Fair. Please let me know that you received the wristbands and bumperstickers and that you will have them there to distribute free to anyone who wants them. It’s so important to keep our message out there….to educate the public…to save lives. I will call you before Friday. Hugs, Denise
